Har Ki Pauri Ghat is where the mesmerising Ganga Aarti of Maa Ganga takes place everyday in morning and evening. This Ghat is named after the charan or footprints of Shri Hari Vishnu which are impressed upon a stone set on a wall of the Ghat.
When the drops of Amrit – the elixir of immortality, accidentally fell on earth during Samudra Manthan, Haridwar was one the four places where one drop of Amrit fell and since then that spot is known as Brahma Kund. Brahma Kund popularly known as Har Ki Paudi/ Har Ki Pairi is where the divine Maa Ganga Aarti is performed daily at morning and evening.
The Har Ki Pairi/ Har Ki Paidi shines even at night. The beautiful lighting near Maa Ganga Ghat comes in all hues of Colour and you will never find a spot without light.
You will see so many Diyas/lamps lit up after the holy Maa Ganga Aarti. While many pilgrims prefer to light up the Diyas and offer them in the flowing river water, there are many others who light the Diyas and put them on the steps of area in Har Ki Paudi.
There comes a moment when you don’t want to go back to your hotel room or Dharamshala and just sit peacefully at Har Ki Paudi even though its night and it’s cold or its time for dinner.
You better not forget to carry with you the holy water before leaving the city. There are various sizes of containers and it all depends on you as to which one to buy depending on the number of people you are going to gift this holy water to.
The beauty of Maa Ganga Ghat at Haridwar in the morning as well as evening is equally splendid. As you spend more and more time at the Ganga Ghat you feel a sense of calm and serenity all around. Even the crowds and the chaos near Har Ki Pairi don’t bother you anymore.
